What The Butler SawWikipedia says this play is set in a private clinic. That is a euphemism. It is set in a lunatic asylum, viz. the world.

Revealing any details in advance would spoil the effect, but the following quotations from eminent authorities may suffice to give a flavour:

“Every normal person, in fact, is only normal on the average. His ego approximates to that of the psychotic in some part or other and to a greater or lesser extent.” (Sigmund Freud)

“You don’t have to be mad to work here, but it helps.”

And finally, on the issue of diagnosing mental disorder:
It takes one to know one.

Enjoy – because it is, after all, a comedy!
