C@ST Evenings

In between our main productions, all members have a chance to be creative – whether it is getting a cast together to read a play;  to platform a new play written by a member; to act a rehearsed play-reading (and open it to the public as a fund-raiser); to show-case one-acts; or tinker and record readings, this is an opportunity to realise an idea that may have lain dormant for years, but the opportunity never arose until now!

Three such evenings developed further – A play adapted from the Lady Molly of Scotland Yard mysteries by Baroness Orczy, adapted by Lesley Bates and read at a C@st evening, went on to the Totton and Codford one-act festivals, garnering prizes at both.

Our patron Barney Norris developed South African playwright Athol Fugard’s The Road to Mecca as a rehearsed, script-in-hand, acted play-reading for members and an outside audience, which proved to be a good fund-raiser as well

Then, Last Journey to the edge of the Sea written by member Philippa Crundwell, was show-cased for the first time at Studio. Read, sight unseen, by a dozen or so members, it was an excellent opportunity to hear a brand new play. The Playhouse subsequently offered the Salberg for a one-night performance which was again directed by Barney Norris, with a spirited question and answer session with the playwright, director and cast afterwards.

From small beginnings…..

COME DINE WITH STUDIO THEATRE.

The last C@ST evening was Friday 30 May and was open to the public and Studio supporters.

Alan Ayckbourn’s playlet In Between Mouthfuls – one from his Confusions collection was presented as a script-in-hand performance, followed by Dinner for One – with the renowned Butler, James, serving Miss Sophie and her admirers with copious toasts to her birthday….

The new season of C@st evenings continues apace. The next evening is a meet and greet with our new President, Barney Norris. The bar will be open, questions welcome and the date is Friday 24 October at 7.30 pm.
