STUDIO AND TOTTON ONE ACT DRAMA FESTIVAL.
Look on the bright side – there might be a Totton Drama Festival this year….it might have to be put back three months to June because of the pandemic…..and Studio might enter to defend its winner’s trophy from 2019, which it has kept in all its shiny silverness for two whole years. In a spirit of optimism, that is exactly what is going to happen – roadmaps, jabs and lateral flow tests allowing.
This year’s festival runs at Hanger Farm Arts Centre in Totton from June 14-17 and on the opening night, Studio Theatre will be on stage for the first time in 18 months performing Afterplay by Brian Friel. It’s a gentle, touching two-hander directed by Lesley Bates, set in a Moscow cafe where Andrey (George Goulding), brother of Chekhov’s Three Sisters, bumps into Uncle Vanya’s niece Sonya (Rachel Fletcher). Over cabbage soup and vodka, truth and lies tumble out.
As there are no plans to stage it at Studio at present, this could be your only chance to see it and it would be lovely to have some Studio support. Tickets for June 14 are £9 (students £8) from Hanger Farm Arts Centre on 0238 0667683 or www.minsteadtrust.org.uk/hanger-farm
